About Sport Sketch I created SportSketch.com so I could offer my sketches to parents, coaches and players from around the world not just locally. I have composed well over 1,000 sketches to date. I have countless letters, emails and phone calls from elated parents. This expressed joy and appreciation far out weighs the monetary compensations. I am thrilled to be able to touch people's lives in such a positive manner and do this on a daily basis.
"Many of us have a collection of 4x6's and 5x7 photos of our kids tucked away in a drawer or stuck in a scrapbook that is occasionally shared with a guest or during a family moment. But to have one of these photos transformed into an art piece that can be displayed and enjoyed everyday is truly a gift you will never regret." I was creating sketches from photos long before digital cameras became popular. In 1991 I developed techniques in the darkroom that allowed me to sketch with India ink and fiber based papers. When digital SLR cameras replaced my film equipment I had to learn these techniques in the digital darkroom. Being a perfectionist, I find that I continue to refine my techniques even today. And as software is updated and new software is created, I find that I continue to go through a metamorphosis. The WACOM tablet has been instrumental to my rediscovering the joy of sketching and creating art from photos. The ability to put the pen back in my hand and freely sketch using digital files is truly miraculous. Software, computers and peripheral devices are tools that help me to express myself artistically. Finding the perfect balance in composition while emphasizing that special player or subject is like unlocking the key to the image. There is much, much, more to creating a sketch than throwing a photo into Photoshop and clicking a few actions that generate a digitally altered file. Rest assured that your photograph will be given my personal attention when I receive it.

You can obtain more information about James and his art at: http://TakeYourBestShot.com Recent comment from tournament director Rick Grefthen: 8/15/05 James Geddes Photography was kind
enough to shoot a days worth of soccer matches at our annual tournament
this summer. I found about a dozen shots of my child I simply fell
in love with and ordered a P4 poster and a 12"X16" color sketch.
When I met James to pick up the order I was in awe. There's no way
to truly know how much better these were going to look in person compared
to my expectations based on the samples shown on the website. These
one-of-a-kind pieces are priceless and truly capture the spirit of our
daughter. I simply cannot convey how pleased we are with these
pieces. Phenomenal!

ABOUT PHOTO QUALITY
|
First of all, your
photo is the foundation of my sketch. If it is blurry it will be
difficult to work with. |
| Where are you located? | We are about 15 east of Seattle in Newcastle WA. 7227 138th Ave. SE Newcastle, WA 98059 425-227-6900 |
| How do you turn my photos into works of art? | I create a digital file of the photo. Then I use software and a WACOM tablet to sketch the image which creates another file that I print from. |
| Can I preview my artwork before receiving it? | Web images are just not a good representation of my
work. They allow the viewer to understand what I do but not how well I
do it. As Mr. Grefthen is quoted above, " There's no way to truly know how much better these were going to look in person compared to my expectations based on the samples shown on the website. These one-of-a-kind pieces are priceless..." I would be happy to enclose a web size file with your order so that you may share it with family and friends on the internet. |
| What's your return policy? |
Your satisfaction is guaranteed. If you are not thrilled with the artwork, simply return it within 30 days for a full refund. (Shipping charges, if any, are non refundable). |
| What is the turnaround time? |
The total turnaround time is approximately 3-4 weeks with priority mail shipping. Please note that shipments made to those outside of the US and Canada may take longer. |
| Where can I read your customers'
comments? |
We receive wonderful feedback from our customers. I have listed some recent comments on our home page. |
| How do I send my photographs? |
You may send your photographs via email or via regular mail. The addresses are located at the top of this column. Please don't forget to include your order number with your picture submission. There is a guideline offer here. |
| I'm sending my photo via email,
what format should I use? |
You may send your picture in .jpeg, .gif, .bmp, or .tiff. We suggest sending files with the least amount of compression possible. Send files directly from your digital camera. Please DO NOT attempt to sharpen or improve upon the image. I will adjust the image according the ICC profiles of my printers. We print all artwork at 300 DPI. Try to limit the size to 10 MB. |
| I'm sending my photo via regular
mail, what size should it be? |
When sending pictures via regular mail, we suggest you send a picture at least 4"x6". As with digital pictures, the bigger the image, the easier it will be for me to obtain detail. I prefer glossy prints over luster or satin finish. A flat matte is also a good choice. |
| Will my painting be signed by James Geddes? | Yes, I sign and date all my work. If you would prefer that I not sign the art, please list that in the "instructions to the artist" when making your order. |
| Can you combine images from more than one photograph into a single painting? | Yes, I will. Add $10.00 for each addition photo that will be combined into the single sketch. Simply give me detailed instructions when placing your order, and don't forget to include your phone number. |
| How will my artwork be packed for shipment? | Your sketch will arrive in a 16.5 x 20.5 flat art mailer. I enclose your sketch within a flat box inside the mailer to give it double wall protection. |
